The traditional Chinese definitionof righteousness is demonstrated on the relationship among Liu Bei, Guan Yu andZhangfei, and it is mainly displayed in the deeds of Guan Yu, so it has becomethe core of Guan Yu Culture. The Guan Yu Culture, deduced from the culture of Three Kingdoms, is the feature culture ofcombination of traditional Chinese culture andThree Kingdoms culture, and it is rooted in theJingzhou culture. GuanYu governed Jinzhou for more than 10 years, whichis the highlightof his life, but it ends with his tragic death.

Guan Yu's valor is best demonstrated in hisgoverning of Jinzhou. During Guan Yu's governing of Jingzhou, the three political groups, CaoChao, Liu Bei and Sun Quan, were competing and fighting with each otherfrequently, and it was the time of the initial three kingdoms' map formation, atime of complication and fierce battles. Guan Yu was already a hero inthe beginning, and his governing of Jingzhou furtherdemonstrates his heroic character, and thus he was respected by thepeople in the coming years.

Under the rapiddevelopment of commodity economy, worship of Guan Yu has become a way for somepeople seeking fortune and protection, and therefore they have made him into aGod of fortune and security. Jingzhou, the original region of Guan Yu Culture,is the real hometown of Guan Yu Culture.

The artistic depiction enrichesGuan Yu's righteousness in the battles of Jingzhou. The fighting for and in Jingzhouamong the kingdoms of Wei, Shu and Wu was a grand historic scene. The great literary work, Romance of Three Kingdoms, narrates the Jingzhou events vividly,and making it the most exciting part of the book. Many chapters focuses on thedepicting of Guan Yu, and makes his righteousness and heroic spirit stand outamong other characters. Guan Yu’s status was enhanced as a god and saint of excellent martialskills. This is strongly related with the social and cultural background, andit also has strong relation with Guan Yu's rule in Jingzhou. From the developingof Guan Yu Culture, we can say that Jingzhou is the origin of Guan Yu worship.The earliest Guan Yu temples were built in Jingzhou.
